What Causes Lesions Near Vagina, Dyspareunia And Vaginismus?

Hi, I have recently found myself presenting with a number of gynaecological issues. My partner has HSV 2 so I am particularly paranoid as to whether I have contracted this. My symptoms began a few months ago but each time they eased up, so I wasn t too concerned but they gave gotten progressively worse with time. At first it was small cuts in the creases of my vagina and the perenium which I thought could be due to sexual intercourse as I have been diagnosed with dyspareunia and vaginismus and sex can often be painful. (I have also had a laparoscopy which identified slight endometriosis but nothing too significant). However these cuts have gotten larger in some areas and are also appearing in different areas. However they seem to persist in the same places and always within the creases, the most sore is the one at the bottom of the vagina into my perenium. I have seen a gynaecologist and she said although it s not typically herpes presentation that it could be because of my partners history. I was tested via IGG blood test 6 weeks ago which was negative but am worried that this was a false negative and am awaiting for my retest results. She also prescribed me a course of canesten as she said I could have a yeast infection. Having inserted the vaginal tablet 2 nights ago I actually feel more sore and am experiencing more redness and feel quite dry with some finer cracks appearing in the skin and swelling of the outer lips. What do you think this could be? Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the skin cracks with sore vagina do indicate sexually transmitted infection most likely Herpes, chlamdia or else. However, the microbiology is the final solution to this query and hence in my clinic, I do recommend a culture swab report of the skin crack sampling via sterile swab container.

My guidelines till the diagnosis:
- Keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid or soap
- Apply calamine lotion to sore areas for soothing action
- Avoid all sorts of intercourse at present till recovery
- Complete course of vaginal tablets as prescribed by your OBGYN
- Drink more liquids to prevent secondary urinary infection
Remain in regular follow up with your consultant for best results.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
