What Causes Lethargy And Depression In A 15 Year Old?

My 15 y/o step daughter had an MRI that showed mild diffuse cerebral atrophy. She has been very lethargic, depressed and recently experiencing hallucinations that she knows aren t real. She was having a difficult time concentrating and comprehending material at school. What could cause this at such a young age?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care magic, I am Dr , Muhammad Ahmad , I have read your question closely, I understand your concern and will be helping you with your health related problem.

As you just told that your step daughter has atrophy of brain it means the brain is damaged, and degenerated, that is why she is not able to perform well and she feels it hard to carry out mental functions.

Usually atrophy is not reversible but the cause of atrophy has to be determined so that so that further progress and deterioration can be stopped. I would suggest you not to panic but follow this up and contact your neurologist.

I hope this answered your question, If you have more queries I am happy to answer you.
Regards.
