Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Light Brown Discharge Despite Taking Cephalexin For Urinary Infection?
I have a bacterial infection and am taking cephalexin but I am experiencing when I urinate and wipe myself a heavy light brown discharge I would guess. I cannot get in touch with my dr. right now but I am very concerned with this. Also, continue to have pelvic pain.I have been on the medication for 3 days but I do not see much improvement. Is this the norm for this infection. thank you.
If the symptoms are due to urinary infection and the antibiotic you are using is effective, you should have seen improvement within 48 hours. The fact that you are not seeing improvement after 3 days of taking the antibiotic means that the antibiotic is not effective or you have a different diagnosis (urinary infection versus a vaginal infection).
It is important to get in touch with your doctor and have a urinalysis and urine culture to determine if there is urinary infection and if so which is the antibiotic to be used. The doctor might need to do a vaginal examinations and possibly some other tests to rule out sexually transmitted infections. A pap smear might be ordered to rule out cervical cancer as the cause of the bleeding.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
