What Causes Light Colored Blood In Stool While On Nitrofurantoin For Cystitis?
I m taking nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice a day for two days for cystitis. However I just noticed what appears to be light colored blood on my toilet tissue. It s the weekend. Could it wait until Monday to see my GP or should I go back to walk in clinic?
I warmly Welcome you to HCM and want to say thanks for the consult.
Cystitis itself causes blood in urine sometimes. But blood in stools may either be due to hemorrhoids or other anal, rectal or colonic anomaly. Nitrofurantoin has no such adverse reaction that causes blood in feces. It has some other etiology that needs to be ruled out.
You can go the walk in clinic for your satisfaction but it doesn't seem to be such an emergent issue. You may also get it checked on Mon. as you go to your Primary care physician.
