What Causes Light Period And Abdominal Cramping While On Birth Control Shot?

I am on the birth control shot 8 years now i have not had a period in two years well two days ago I was cramping very hard and i had a light period for 1day and nothing i cramped this morning took a pain pill but no bleeding what is going on I am 37years old

Injectable hormonal contraceptives are known to cause chage in menstrual pattern . It may vary from absence of menses to scanty or profuse bleeding . This is to the long acting hormones that bring about lack of ovulation & prevents conception.
