What Causes Light Pink Discharge And Pelvic Pain After Having Unsafe Sex?

Hi! I have a question on some spotting that I have been having lately...My last period was on the 13th of April, on the 17th I had unprotected sex, a week later my boyfriend fingered me and it was quite rough and right after it I checked and I was bleeding a bit, this continued for about 5 days as light spotting in a brownish colour and sometime pink. I had unprotected sex again on the 30th of April. I ve been on the combined pill since mid january approx. but started taking it properly without forgetting days since february that I set an alarm for it. On the 15th of April I forgot to take my pill at 6 pm as I do everyday and took it the next day at 8am when I remembered and continued taking them regularly. Today (3rd of May) I had a pinkish discharge and I m worried because this hasn t happened before to me and I was wondering whether it was because of the previously mentioned fingering or may there be the possibility of being pregnant. I also think you should know that I have polycistic ovaries and today I felt a very mild pain around my ovary and cramp pain... I ll await your answer, thank you for your help!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are having light pink discharge and pelvic pain after having unsafe sex. our BF did fingering and it was quite rough. Appearance of light-pink discharge after sexual intercourse is an unfavorable symptom. It indicates trauma to blood capillaries of the vaginal mucous lining or the uterine cervix due to rough sexual intercourse when the vagina is inadequately wet. It can be indicative of neoplasms.

Always use vaginal lubricants for better sex, avoid painful fingering that will cause injury / cuts / abrasions to the delicate private parts. You can apply a thin layer of Soframycin ointment on the affected area to help it get healed. If you were not on regular CP and did not take emergency CP either than you can be pregnant, if you miss your regular periods then wait for a couple of days and get a pregnancy test done. If pregnant, you will be accordingly managed. If not the other medical conditions that can cause similar symptoms will be assessed and treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
