What Causes Light Vaginal Spotting After Taking Levothyroxen?
Hi I have a period/ pregnancy question. I have hypothyroidism and I didn t take my levothyroxen for about a month or so. I got them last week and started taking them again. I thought I was pregnant cuz my breasts were hurting, I was peeing a lot more, and my lower belly above my groin was really itchy. I took a pregnancy test on Thursday of last week it came up negative. Later Thursday afternoon my period started and I bled till late Saturday night. When I woke up Sunday my period had stopped it was gone till Monday afternoon. I bled Monday yesterday for a few hours and last night it was gone again this morning I noticed very light bleeding but it was only there for a few hours and now its gone again. All this time since Thursday its been very light flow and its been bright red or very light pinkish. Also my breasts no longer hurt. Could I be having a miscarriage or just an abnormal period due to my levothyroxen getting back in my system?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Menstrual disturbances are known to be associated with hypothyroidism. For that reason you have been recommended to take the medication levothyroxine. It takes about few months for the body to be back to normal and maintain normal thyroid levels in blood. Such menstrual disturbances like spotting or irregular periods can continue for some time during this period. Gradually, you should be relieved from such symptoms once things stabilize with due course of treatment. Kindly take the medication as advised by your doctor and do the necessary follow-up. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
