I am currently on Lialda for UC. Was recently in an accident and had blood work done to check for infection, etc. Results came back, no infection, but liver function is high. Was reading the side effects of Lialda and see that a side effect is abnormal liver function test . Is my liver fine and the drug is making the test err or is the test correct and my liver is function is high?

Well, beside infection there are some other causes which may elevaed SGOT and SGPT levels which indicate liver damage or injury from different types of diseases or conditions. So the next step is to look for certain liver damage and most common casue is fatty liver disease. It should be confirmed by ultrasound. Other causes are viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, medications, alcohol intake or autoimmune diseases. To verify exact cause, US, bilirubin levels and tumor markers should be additionaly done Then appropriate treatment can be started. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
