Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter who is 15 is in the hospital for liver failure. Enzymes are over 1700 they have ruled out Tylenol. They are still running test to see what is causing the failure. They have no answers to what is going on. It is not drugs or alcohol those were the 1st things they ran on her. I am thinking maybe could be mono or something alone that line that kids would get. Reye Syndrome..
The causes can be as follow which should be ruled out with history, examination and investigation accordingly... -Drug induced (hepatotoxic drugs) -viral hepatitis (if jaundice, abdominal pain present at the time of admission) -Metabolic disorder like Wilson disease, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency etc... -cardiovascular problem like septicemia, heart failure etc...
So according to cause found treatment will be instituted until then Symptomatic management done
Hence suitable investigation done according to suspected cause like serum hbsag testing by ELISA, HBA ELISA, HCV ELISA, serum ceruloplasmin, EKG etc....
Take care
Hope your concern solved
