I am having a long menstrual cycle this month and some days are light, today it has been heavy with a couple of clots. I haven t gone thru menopause & I haven t had a cycle for 2 or 3 months. Is there anything to be concerned about? I ve had my period for a least 4 weeks this time.
Hi dear thanks for writing to healthcare magic!! Heavy periods at your age is suggestive of menorrhagia and possible causes includes fibroid, ovarian cyst, Pelvic inflammation disease, bleeding disorder. I advise the following investigations- Pelvic USG, Endometrium biopsy and Clinical examination. Treatment should consists of hormonal pills or progesterone pills that helps in regularisation of the cycle, Also tranexamic tablets will reduce the blood loss. NSAIDs like ibuprofen will reduce the pain. Hope this information helps Regards Dr.Sohil Takodara
