5 days ago I had the following sysmptoms. Fever, Chills, Chest congestion without any mucous coming up. Pain in Chest. Head aches. Continuous uncontrolable deep coughing but no phlem or mucous. Sinus congestion but no runny nose. So fatigued could barely get out of bed. I called my doctor but was to sick to make an appointment. He prescribed me Doxycyclin Hyclate 100mg 14 pills. I still have 2 days worth left to take. All my symptoms have finally subsided except for the dry cough but chest still feels congested and I cannot cough anything up. My wife is sick with the same her symptoms started 3 days before mine. Her symptoms have subsided aswell except for the cough and chest congestion. My question s are, was this just Flu and also how long will the congestion last?
Yes, the possibility of viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more likely. URTI can lead to bronchitis which causes chest congestion. Usually, this is self-limiting in 1-2 weeks.
So drink plenty of fluids orally. Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day. Take an antihistamine and anti-inflammatory drugs for faster relief.
If not improving after 1 week then consult a doctor and get done chest X-ray to rule out lung infection. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
