Hi,

Metformin causes gastrointestinal upset in the form of nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps or diarrhea as side effects. These side effects reduce in the next few weeks as your body adjusts to metformin. You can take the drug after food to reduce these side effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
