What Causes Loose Stool Post Vitamin B12 Supplement Intake?

Hello, I am a little low on b-12 . My Dr advised to take b-12 5000 mcg once a day by mouth. Inter a week of this I started a very loose bowl. This is unusual for me I am somewhat constipated as a rule. Could this be from the b-12? I am 82. Thank you

Hi,

Symptoms of loose motion may not be due to the Vitamin B12 you have taken but it could be due to the diet taken that might have caused the indigestion.

Second, it could be due to intestinal infection. In either of this case, nothing can be done unless it is the severe condition.

Else, it is the self limiting condition, again passing the stool 3 to 4 times in a day is normal one.

If this is the proven infection then it can be managed with a single dose of tablet Secnidazole 1 G. Take care of your diet and try to be hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Akhtar Husain
