What Causes Loose Stool?

I am 60 yr old female, I have loose stools for 4 days no fever,no nausea I took Imodium for 1 day stopped because the bowel movements decrease and I hate to take meds. I have never had problems with my bowels , do yo think this is something that will pass or how long should I give this before going to see a MD

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

You might have functional bowel problem or mild enteritis

Usually Symptomatic management done first

Maintain hydration with lots of water

ORS also needs to be taken along with water to replenish lost ekectrolytes

Avoid High spicy foods

Fruits and green leafy vegetables taken more

Avoid stress and smoking

Excess tea, coffee restricted

If no improvement in week than antibiotic might needed and USG with stool examination done for further work up

Hope this will help
