Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am female age 70. Over the last two years I have lost my sense of smell and taste. This began after a bout of strep throat treated with antibiotics in April 2014. Very gradual. Went to ENT this spring and was given antibiotics, nasal sprays, had sinus scan. This helped very slightly and we discussed a dental problem that might be aggravating the issue. Went to dentist who repaired the tooth and put bridges most of my jaw teeth hoping this might correct the loss of smell. I live in Houston, TX. I will go back to the ENT, but was hoping when the dental was repaired the problem would be helped. Is this symptom from another serious health problem.
Other anosmia causes include Nasal polyps -- small noncancerous growths in the nose and sinuses that block the nasal passage. Injury to the nose and smell nerves from surgery or head trauma.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
