Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My taste buds are almost gone. What little taste I do have doesn t taste like it should. Also I have diabetes is under control. My last A1C was 6.3 so shouldn t some of my side effects subside rather than get worse? Such as the numbness in my feet and legs, and now my finger tips are going numb. I am also constantly tired and wanting to sleep and I do sleep. I can sleep all day and night and can still sleep more. I have had Aplastic Anemia in them past but it has been in remission for about four or five years now. I also have Alpha 1 Antitripson Defeiciency and as a result have had both of my upper lobes on my lungs removed
It is due to neuropathy from diabetes that you have taste loss, numbness.
Moreover, anemia causes it due to deficiency of nutrients which are essential for the development of taste buds and healthy oral mucosa.
You need vitamin supplementation for a few months and monitoring of sugar level.
You also need a mouthwash to stop bad odour from the mouth which can also cause bad taste commonly observed in diabetes. I suggest you report oral medicine and radiology department for examination and you may need also scaling that would be done there. After that see your physician for diabetes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
