What Causes Loss Of Appetite After Traumatic Back Injury?

I had a rear ended car accident 8 days ago. right after accident I felt spine light pain from neck to thoracic. First 2 days after, I slept a lot and had headache and nausea. Now after several visits to chiropractor, I still have spine light pain and discomfort, I feel better when I lay down flat. And I lost my appetite, I can eat, no desire and can only take very light food. Do I need to visit other doctor except chiropractor? Where was damaged so I lost appetite? Thank you in advance! Cheryl

Hello,

Since you are having pain from neck radiating to thorax after car accident, you are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedics and get CT / MRI done to detect any fracture, vertebrae dislocation, spinal issues, blunt thoracic trauma penetrating thoracic injury, any internal trauma, etc. You may have to go through some blood and urine, stool tests. You will be treated accordingly.

Loss of appetite after an accident is commonly due to psychological stress, PTSD, etc. You should relax and try to forget about the unfortunate event. It may take 4-6 weeks to relax and get back to normal lifestyle. You are suggested to take appetizers and digestives. Try to stay cheerful and get busy with some of the favorite work that keep you happy and positive.

You can get an endoscopy done to rule out any internal injury that may be interfering with your appetite. Take light food that is easily digestible in small portions multiple times a day. Avoid eating anything that is raw. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
