What Causes Loss Of Appetite And Diarrhea While Recovering From Urinary Retention?

Hello, My Mom came home from the hospital after spending three weeks for Urine Retention. Now she has no appetite and a crazy bout of diarrhea. I think she s afraid to eat because it sometimes gets to the point where it messes her up before she reaches the toilet. What do you think is the cause and should we take her back to the hospital? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The diarrhea could be due to gastroenteritis like infection of intestine. I suggest you submit her stool sample to nearby laboratory for analysis. According to stool report I can guide you further. Meanwhile you can consult her to nearby hospital if diarrhea doesn't resolve in one or two days. Give her lots of fluid and ORS like electrolyte powder.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
