What Causes Loss Of Appetite And Night Sweats In A Lung Cancer Patient?

Hello. My best friend has had chemotherapy and radiation for Stage 3 or 4 lung cancer (not sure which one) diagnosed in October 2015. Since Christmas she has suffered night sweats, loss of appetite, and additional weight loss. Has the cancer recurred? From what research I have been able to obtain, is 12-15 months the approximate time of relapse and is chemo/radiation helpful at this point or is it merely palliative?

Hello,

It’s unclear why some types of cancer cause night sweat. This may happen because your body is trying to fight cancer.

Hormone level changes may also be a cause. When cancer causes a fever, your body may sweat excessively as it tries to cool down.

In some cases, night sweats occur due to cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, drugs that alter hormones, and morphine.

Treatment response depends upon the stage of cancer and associated complications. Please consult your oncologist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
