What Causes Loss Of Appetite In A 9 Month Old Baby?
First of all hello and thanks to all the doctors over here I am having a concern.. My son is 9 and half months old currently weighing 8.6kgs his birth weight was 2.78kg.He started with teething issues lately and also suffering from loss of appetite which sometimes make him eat absolutely nothing next he is having big time sleeping issues..He wakes up crying almost 8-10 times on an average during night. He also had viral dysentery 2n half weeks back and since then his solids intake went down to a great extent..He was never a foodies but thesedays seem really tough as he is hardly eating anything .. I even observed it might be even cause of his digestion issue as he don t pass motion regularly.. For this I went to a reputed ped and he suggested me Cypon drops ..I gave it to my son jus once yester night ,0.4ml and felt suspicious as all of a sudden he started sleeping a little longer also ate good in the morning .. Later after checking here I found the reviews regarding the syrup and have immediately stopped it but I am worried will that single dose effect my son ? Also, While teething is that normal for a baby to say NO to solids/semisolids? And are these sleeping troubles anyways related to teething? He is very active and don t seem to have any other medical issues .. Thanks

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Teething time is a stuff time for your baby. All of it. The irritability, night crying, loss of appetite and all of the changes he shows are due to swollen&sore gums from where the tooth is being erupted.
Give him non-irritant ( breast milk or formula milk as much as he wants), cold (freezed banana on a non-injuring stick, smooth but a bit hard food to bite (teething biscuits), food to suck in teething feeder (rice cakes), or soft mushy food easy to chew (avocado slice).
Entertain him with teething toys to help him out of the hard time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
