Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Loss Of Balance In A Child Upon Swallowing Of Benadryl?
Earlier today my child swallowed a 200mg benadryl at first he acted drunk then he slept off most of that but still is having trouble keeping his balance although he is also getting his stomach teeth .Because the symptoms are getting better do u think he is ok his weight is 23lbs
Your son seems to have developed symptoms suggestive of Benadryl overdose. When taken in larger doses Benadryl can cause drowsiness (profound sleep), dizziness, delirium, increased heart beats, dry mouth, constipation, retention of urine, unsteadiness (motor incoordination) and convulsions. I recommend a pediatric consultation for further evaluation and treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
