What Causes Loss Of Balance In The Body While On Amiodarone?

Hello. I am concerned that my father is having more side effects from amiodarone than it s worth him taking. Isn t there anything with less side effects? It has affected his balance to the point that he has had 3 falls since January. He is currently in the hospital from a fall a week ago. He had significant laceration to his forehead into his scalp and is on Eliquis. My email is YYYY@YYYY Thank you

Hi,

Yes, Amiodarone has side effects, as are many medications. But the use of medicines is based on the benefit they give as compared to the harm.

Yes, there are alternative medicines to Amiodarone. Your father might have developed peripheral neuropathy as a side effect of Amiodarone, which is probably leading to imbalance.

I advise my patients to get thoroughly evaluated for the causes of imbalance than directly assuming as caused by Amiodarone.

You consult your treating Doctor for the side effects and he would change your prescription based on your father's disease for which he was being prescribed Amiodarone.

I suggest you not to delay evaluation and consult your treating physician.
