What Causes Loss Of Balance While Walking And Fatigue In A Diabetic Patient?

I was just 78 and for the past 8 or so years i can lose my balance while walking. It does not happen all the time but when I am tired, hungry it can happen more often. I use a cane now but want to be free of it and just walk. I am a healthy person except take medication for diabetes and high blood and low potassium. I have fallen maybe 3 times in the last 6 months. Sometimes I walk fine and other times my gait is off. I just read that doing exercises can help.
