What Causes Loss Of Body Weight Post Heart Surgery?

My husband has lost 30 lbs. in just 4 months following heart surgery (double heart valve replacement & double bypass. We are now noticing there is also loss of muscle mass. He is slowly regaining some weight. He believes he has arthritis but his doctor will not prescribe Celebrex while he is taking Warfarin. He has a large lump on his wrist which is scheduled for removal by a hand surgeon. I m wondering if the loss of muscle is related to the arthritis or several months of limited food intake. He is on at least 7 medicines and claims that they affect the taste of most foods.

Hello,

In my opinion you should not worry. It will take time for the body to recover after one surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
