What Causes Loss Of Sensitivity To Taste And Smell While On Allegra?
I have been prescribe allegra or zyrtec for many years and use flonase every evening. I have in the last 6 months lost most of my ability to smell from the right side of my nose. I am trying essential oils and no longer take either allegra or zyrtec and though I do not have a sinus headache and can breathe I still cannot smell. Wondering what could be causing this in that I cannot taste most of my food when I eat.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have loss of sensitivity to taste and smell while on Allegra, which could be due to use of medication such as sinusitis , oral infection nerve dysfunction like glossopharyngeal . Maintain a proper dental hygiene to prevent gingivitis or stomatitis , do warm saline nasal rinses , take steam several times a day or consult doctor who prescribe allerga so that he/she can alter the dose or prescribe substitute . Avoid smoking if person is habitual. I would advice use of oral corticosteroids as well because if its due to any allergy it will resume back taste. I would suggest you to visit neurologist once as well as to ENT specialist and take medications which lower down autoimmune or nervous system disorder. Give them diet rich in zinc supplements as that will recover there taste and smell .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
