What Causes Loss Of Smell And Taste While Suffering From Bronchitis?

6 months ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis. After 3 different antibiotics I was given Prednisone for 5 days. Since then I ve lost most of my sense of smell and taste. I also have a sweet and sometimes chemical smell in my sinuses. Everything tastes like this. It s getting worse. I have an appointment with an ENT on Tuesday.

Hi,

Alteration in smell and taste is all due to respiratory tract infection and sinuses. Bad breathe or smell is often called halitosis in dentistry. So you need to get the first dental consultation.

I suggest you:
- Use Mouthwash Chlorohexidine and rinse your mouth well. It will relieve from the bad smell.

You also take care of your oral hygiene and brush properly. If you any cavity in teeth and calculus then meet dentist and get it corrected. It will further relieve from it. But for respiratory tract infection see your physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Soheel Hussain Zargar,
