What Causes Loss Of Taste After Colostomy?

My 87 year old Mother had ovarian cancer and now has a colostomy (14 years). She has had dementia for the last 5-6 years. She recently was hospitalized and the colostomy was moved to the other side. She has had 3 surgeries in less than a month. She has been in the hospital for over a month. Of course, she is very confused. She now seems very concerned with her weight. She was a GREAT eater prior to this hospitalization, but now is happy she is losing weight. She says, nothing tastes good and picks at everything. Is this normal to lose taste or could there be there some underlying reason she is not eating?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Three operations at a stretch in one months time ... along with post ooerative antibiotics must hsve depleated her normal intestinal flora... that's why the lack of desire to eat/tastlessness.
She can be given B complex injections/syyrup to start with along with probiotics in form of lactobacillus preparation for long running effet.
Thanks.
