What Causes Loss Of Taste Sensation?

I have lost my sense of taste about 10 days ago or so and my sense of smell about a week ago. What can cause this? My sinuses are clear so I don't think that could be the problem or can it? Frustrated I can no longer taste my food.

thank you, Kathy

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms loss of taste and smell are inter-related phenomena as one compliment the action of other..
Loss of taste and smell is seen in common conditions like Sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, nasal polyps etc.
While in case if there local causes ate not found to be causing the same the other causes can be head injury, nerve damage etc.

I would suggest you to consult a n Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations like PNS view, MRI will be done to rule out the exact cause so that treatment can be done accordingly..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
