Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I feel like i haven t had taste buds for the last 6 weeks. I first noticed it when I had an awful cold in late March (which obviously makes sense that i can t taste because of congestion), but since then it hasn t been the same. I take 1X Allegra every day for seasonal allergies...and i would categorize my allergy symptoms and normal, not extreme. Why have i lost my ability to taste and can i ever get taste back? Nevermind...didn t realize i had to pay for the answer. thanks anyway!
Allegra has no such side effects though it may interact with the other medications, some medications may affect taste (ACE inhibitors & beta blockers) that you might be taking so keep your treating PCP informed.
Loss of taste may be due to medical problems like loss of smell, people realize it late. They experience a salty, metallic, rancid sensation in the mouth (Dysgeusia).
Problems may be sinusitis, polyps, Alzheimer/Parkinson's disease. Get yourself physically examined, take all required tests & get treated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
General & Family Physician
