What Causes Loss Of Taste?

I have noticed I have been experiencing a loss of taste over the past few weeks. I have no other symptoms however I have always had an enlarged thyroid. I also suffer from dry skin, I am constantly cold and have gained 15 lbs since last year while eating healthy and exercising. Could it be related to my thyroid?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I don't think it is much related to thyroid but may be related to dry skin.
Sjogren's syndrome, the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first — resulting in decreased tears and saliva. The absence of salivs gives lack of taste.
Also some medications such tetracycline antibiotics, or cardiac medication cause it.
Also the deficiency of folate and B12 can cause it.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
