Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Loss Of Verbal Abilities In An Elderly Person?
I m 70 years old...in the past year or so I ve found myself not being able to think of a word...common words that I know perfectly well, but just cannot pull it up! Simple words like apricot or simple words in conversation...its just not there. But if I concentrate for several minutes it will almost always come to me. I m very concerned that it might be the onset of Alzheimer s. I ve always had a very good vocabulary (just now as I am writing this, I couldn t come up with the word vocabulary ....I had to think for a minute or so for it to come to me) and its very frustrating and worrisome... I don t have any of the other symptoms listed in early onset Alzheimer s....no losing things or putting things in strange places, I don t forget how to get to familiar places, etc. Does this seem a normal aging problem or could it be something more?
After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that you should get yourself evaluated with a neurologist for Alzheimer’s or brain stroke.
Hopefully this information will guide you properly.
Kind Regards Dr Bhanu Partap
