Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Low TSH Levels While On Lithium And Quetiapine?
I take Lithium and Quetiapine at night for Manic Depression/Bipolar. Also 175mcg of Levothyroxine in the mornings for an Under-Active Thyroid. Recently had a regular Blood Test, Dr asked me to do another Blood Test in 6 weeks time as my TSH Levels are 0.18. Do you know what are the causes of the Low TSH Level? Many thanks, Tracy.
The main aim of Levothyroxine treatment is to provide symptomatic relief for the patient and its dose should be adjusted in order to maintain TSH levels within the reference range (around 0.5 to 2.5 mU/l) Low levels of serum TSH indicate that your Levothyroxine dose is high and it should be reduced to maintain the TSH levels within the reference range as mentioned above.
Besides, Lithium is known to cause hypothyroidism, so, its dose should also be adjusted by your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
