My 19 year old son has alopecia aerate, has had cortisone shots on three occassions in the past year. I am having extensive nutritional bloodwork currently done but no results as yet. His Vit. Hi,

Alopecia areata is mainly an autoimmune disorder leading to hair loss occurring at localised regions of the scalp. Vitamin D deficiency is also considered to be a cause of hair loss. Cortisone injections which you have taken in the past year can also cause vitamin D deficiency as a side effect. I would suggest you to take Vitamin D3 in the form of capsule or powder along with milk. A dose of 60,000 IU can be taken once a week for 4 weeks and levels should be rechecked.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
