Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went in to the doctor with stomach pain and she did a urine test and cbc. She said my wbc was low so it was a stomach virus. In the meantime, she sent me result that my c-reactive protein test is 23.4 which she stated abnormal. Could it be from stomach virus? Don t go back to doctor until 28th, just a little concerned that she wants me to come in to go over results.
The low count of WBC can be due to viral infection as your treating doctor suspects.
However, c-reactive protein is non specific test which shows presence of inflammation in the body due to infection or major tissue injury.
The normal range of CRP is taken a 3 mg/L in most countries, and anything over 10 mg/L can be caused due to chronic conditions like lupus, crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis.
In my view, there is nothing to be worried about as most infections or chronic disease can be easily managed.
On your visit to doctor, expect to get examined for any underlying condition and you might need to take a couple of other tests to evaluated the cause of high CRP levels.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
