Hi,

Normal alkaline phosphatase level may be up to 140 or so. It may be present in diseases of liver or gall bladder as well as some bone diseases or bone injuries. However, isolated raised alkaline phosphatase in presence of normal SGOT and SGPT levels may be suggesting more to a bone pathology.

Alkaline phosphatase can be raised in response of PTH on calcium absorption from bones. However, blood calcium level remains normal until very late stage of vitamin D deficiency. Therefore, a normal calcium level in presence of a low level of phosphorus and raised alkaline phosphatase may indicate a disturbed Vitamin D metabolism giving rise to vitamin D deficiency. Therefore in my opinion, you are advised to go for a test of vitamin D level & if low, then treatment accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
