What Causes Low Blood Pressure While Suffering From Congenital Heart Defects?

Very long medical history---congenital heart defects with 2 childhood surgeries and a valve repair at age 45. MY QUESTION: my blood pressure generally runs 120/60 and my heart rate (often irregular---cardiologist and primary knows and I m followed regularly) is under 70-----my readings of blood pressure the last month are 116/83. Any cause for concern? my next regular check-up is Nov 22

Hello,

As your blood pressure readings last measured was 116/83 I don't think you should worry much. Usually blood pressure varies from time to time in a day.

Since you had a past medical history of heart conditions you will be onto the medications. The valvular surgery I think must have been performed due to calcification of the valves.

You age is 45 and now you are worried for abnormal readings. I think you should not worry because this isn't causing any symptoms for you. Until any symptoms come you should not worry at all.

Also, if you are using a digital blood pressure monitor the. Reading might not be accurate.

As per the research studies the digital ones has an error of 5-40% as per one of the research article. Doing on a sphygmomanometer is the best thing to do.

Also, until any symptoms arise do not get stressed with whatever reading you get on the digital ones. As without symptoms the readings are just numbers.

Stay healthy, have a good diet and do regular exercise.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
