What Causes Low Blood Sugar Level In Morning?

Quite often my blood sugar in the morning is rather low. However it keeps on increasing for next 2 hours or so even though I had not taken any food. I am diabetic on oral medication. What could be the reason for this?

Dear sir i can understand your concern.
your observation is very true and i appreciate that.
its very difficult to explain to people who do not have core medical knowledge but i will try my best to make you understand the concept.
This observation what you made is called as Dawn Phenomenon and the Somogyi Effect. Both of this are almost similar.
in our body to enable us to take rest during night time most of our hormonal systems are designed to switch off themselves.Since there is no much need of energy the sugar circulatory also slowly reduce its work, so during night time there will be slow reduction of blood sugar. This reduction continues till morning hours and along with sun rise again hormone levels(cortisol)will increase causing slow increase of blood sugar.Even though you might not have taken any thin your liver will contain glycogen which will be converted int glucose and enter system.
in diabetes if dose of medication is more during night time there will be very steep fall of blood sugar in early morning hours and followed by steep increase.
hope now you are clear about the concept.
