What Causes Low Bp At Night?

My husband has high bp & takes Hyzaar & Atenolol daily. Recently, his bp is fairly normal during the day, but bottoms out at night, 63/37 at last measure. His dr doesn t seem to be concerned, she has adjusted meds, but problem still exists. He takes thyroid meds too. Should we be concerned about bp?

Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
When one is sleeping, the nervous system that is dominating is called the parasympathetic nervous system. This system has the ability to reduce the blood pressure. This, coupled to the fact he is taking some drugs for high blood pressure can further reduce the blood pressure. I do think his prescription needs to be reviewed. I would advise he goes back to his attending physician or cardiologist for adjustment of drugs.

I hope that helps
I wish him well
