Hi,
Basically he is having
hypocalcemia, along with high PTH level- this happens in a condition called "pseudo-hypo parathyroidism", although before concluding, I would have ordered few other tests also- serum magneium,
serum albumin, renal function test and urine calcuim-
creatinine ratio.
In this condition, even though our
parathyroid gland secretes PTH hormone as normal, it is not able to act in our body because of abnormal receptor. There are chances of skeletal abnormalities like facial dysmorphism and hand/finger defects in some patients.
In this case, response to calcium injection is delayed. After getting normal calcium level, we can switch to oral calcium, along with calcitriol(active form of vitamin D). Usually treatment is needed for long. Your doctor will discuss these details with you.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
