Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi - am a 56 year old male. The low figure on my blood pressure seems high. It varies between 130/93 (morning reading); 134/88 (6pm reading before meal). The lower figure seems to be consistently higher. Am fit and don't have salt, don't smoke, dont drink. Please could you advise?
Regarding your concern, I would explain that these values of diastolic blood pressure may indicate the beginning of high blood pressure.
I recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure and perform some tests to exclude other possible causes of secondary high blood pressure:
- a chest X ray study - complete blood count for anemia - kidney and liver function tests - thyroid hormone levels - fasting glucose - blood electrolytes - inflammation tests (PCR, ESR).
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues. For the moment there is no need to start anti-hypertensive therapy.
I recommend continue on your healthy lifestyle.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
