What Causes Low Energy While On Cephalexin And SMZ-TMP DS?

My wife is taking Cephalexin 500 Mg 4 times per day and sulfamethoxazole TMP DS twice a day and has been taking them for about 9 days. She is now experiencing weakness and loss of energy. Could this be a side effect from these meds? Should she stop taking them?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be antibiotics induced. Also that it's a very high dose of antibiotics and in combination for these many days should be reviewed and re-discussed with the prescribing doctor or an infectious disease specialist.

Meanwhile, renal and liver functions may be reduced to rule out any side effects relating to the medication. Multivitamins may be needed as normal intestinal flora may be disturbed by the antibiotics.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
