What Causes Low Grade Fever And Mild Chest Pain?

What can cause your xiphoid process to swell outward and become extremely tender? I m also having a low grade fever. There s not pain when I breathe or push on my ribs. Just pain when I touch right in the middle below my ribs, & some on & off mild chest pain. & I feel generally unwell. I went to a small walk in clinic where they prescribed me some nsaids but were unsure & sent me away, since my blood test came back negative for infection.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Mostly it seems to be muscular strain pain.

For that, you have been prescribed correct medication with a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug.

If no improvement than local part x-ray should be done for further work up.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
