What Causes Low Grade Fever While On Tylenol?

My mom is 84 yrs old and has had pain all over her body, arms, legs, hips, at anything that bends and even where it doesn t. This has been for about two weeks. Maybe the top of legs in hip joints and in shoulder joints are worse. She takes 2 Tylenol and that seems to help and then it usually returns. At times, there is no pain without Tylenol. She has had a light runny nose and is taking Claritin. She gets a little hot and cold off and on and she thinks maybe she has a low grade fever. She talked to a nurse practitioner and had an ECHO ultrasound that came out OK.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I'm sorry to hear that your mom hasn't been feeling well. Her fever wouldn't be related to the Tylenol (of course, Tylenol is usually used to treat fever). It's hard to say what exactly is causing her fever, but sometimes one of a number of viruses can cause fever, runny nose, and can also cause arthritis throughout the body. This would be what I suspect, especially since you say she has been having this pain for only 2 weeks. Have you checked her temperature? How high has it gotten?

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
