Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m currently taking 10mg of lexapro a day and recently needed to be put on antibiotic for strep throat. My doctor originally prescribed me 875mg of amoxicillin twice a day but I started having a bad reaction to it. My heart rate dropped, numbing/tingling feeling in legs, feet and hands, shaking, weak and nauseous! They have called me in azithromycin 250mg dose pack to take instead. Will this medicine have the same affects as the amoxicillin?
Drug may have side effect sometimes, in your case low heart rate after taking Amoxicillin. Azithromycin is a drug form a different class with different mechanism and has a different side effects profile. It is extremely unlikely to cause what Amoxicillin did to you.
Yes, it is possible that Azithromycin may have its own side effects but those are very rare little or not at all. Very often it's safe and effective.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
