Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife was diagnosed with a hemoglobin count of 37. There is no apparent reason for this low count. We are presently waiting for the results of a CAT Scan. What could be some possible causes of this low count? Less than a year ago her count was 135. Thanks in advance, Ron Watts.
Dear, Thanks for writing to HCM. I guess u wrote the values as 13.7 and 3.5. Basically such decrease in haemoglobin is a warranting isse and the type of anaemia to be diagnosed with peripheral smear. Although there are many causes for anaemia but chronic blood loss or bone marrow hypofunctioning is most common cause. There may be insensible loss of blood in stool. Some times many viral infection also can lead to hypofunctioning of bone marrow. I suggest you to go for all the investigation and cat scan as advised by ur treating doctor. Hopefully treatment has been started for u and if needed blood transfusion may be given. Thanks Revert back for follow up.
