What Causes Low Levels Of WBC And Platelets?

I had been ill for a week, tired achey, fever, chills, which recurred for a week. local physician did bloodwork. everything came back normal except white blood count/white platelets were low. Dr. suggested I get blood tested again as it could have been related to the illness which now has subsided. what else could it be and what is the significance of low white count? I am male, age 66.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that these kind of blood results are characteristic of some type of infections like spirochete etc. Sometimes these are also related to abnormal bone marrow functions. Are you having a fever? Are you on any immunosuppressive drugs or steroids? More detail will be welcome to form a diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
