What Causes Low Lying Placenta During 20 Weeks Of Pregnancy?
My Wife is 20 weeks pregenant, recently few days back she saw two drops of bleeding. As we rushed to hospital, they did the scan and as per the report there was spots of bleeding and placenta was lying low. Doctor suggested to take complete bed rest. This happened on June 15th and now she is at complete rest. She has her brother s wedding on 29th of this month. Her home town is 8 hours from our place. Can she travel by train?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Low lying placenta in early pregnancy can shift up with growth of uterus.. but low lying placenta at 20 weeks of pregnancy is not likely to shift, remains there only. It is very near/ covering mouth of uterus.. on slightest of strain/ stress it can bleed. May lead to abortion/premature delivery- which has to be by caesarean. That is why patient is advised to take bed rest. So your wife's attending her marriage of her sister after traveling for 8 hours is out of question. It's not at all safe. she can meet her bro & his wife after her child birth./ or newly wed couple can come to meet her.. this will keep her psychology positive. Thanks. Thanks.
