What Causes Low Sodium And Magnesium Level In Body?
My 93 old mother is in the hospital due to suddenly just passing out without warning. She has had cat scan, tons if bloodwork and X-rays and only thing they can find is very low on sodium and magnesium. Blood pressure is erratic from high to normal which might account for passing out. Giving IV if sodium and magnesium but as soon as sodium stopped blood pressure spikes. She has been in hospital for almost a week and is in good health other then passing out. Do you think her heart is just getting tired?
With aging there can be changes in in different systems including- stimulation of thirst, function of the kidney in excreting substances also how the kidney responds to some chemicals. There are some chemicals that affect how much water the kidney lets out and therefore , how concentrated the blood is.
Change in sodium and magnesium can also be due to : (1)side effect of medication (2)head injury, stroke, infection of the brain- affect the release of certain chemicals (3)cancer
There are tests the doctors can do to determine the exact cause and treat.
I hope this helps
