General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
There are several possible causes of lower abdominal cramps while using Depo-Provera, a contraceptive injection that contains the hormone progestin. These can include: * Ovulation: Although Depo-Provera is a very effective form of birth control, it does not eliminate the possibility of ovulation. * Menstrual cramps: Some women experience cramps during the first few months of using Depo-Provera as their body adjusts to the hormone.
Side effects: Depo-Provera can cause various side effects, including headaches, nausea, and dizziness, which may contribute to abdominal cramps. It is essential to consult with your healthcare provider if you experience persistent or severe abdominal cramps to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
