What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain After Taking Plan B?

Yesterday I had unprotected sex and immediately after I purchased the plan b pill, I took it today and 4 hours after I began to bleed quite a bit, not just spotting. Then, it completely stopped and I started having these painfully sharp pains in my lower abdomen on my left side, it s still going on as of this moment. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Lower left sided abdominal pain and spotting might not necessarily have to do with the plan B or unprotected sex. However, lower abdominal pain is a well described side effect of plan B.Possible causes of lower abdominal pain include: Pelvic inflammatory diseases, ovarian cyst.UTI and digestive problems are less likely here. However, lower abdominal pain and some bleeding may have been provoked by sexual intercourse.I will suggest you just observe and see if the symptoms will persist till tomorrow. If so, you consult your Doctor.A pelvic ultrasound will be needed as well.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
